The patterns that make up Khurjeen rugs actually first originated in the clothing of Turkish and Anatolian tribes centuries ago. The tribesmen then decided to use those same patterns to decorate their saddle bags. In fact, the word Kurjeen or Khorjeen means "saddle bag" in the Dari language. Today, Khurjeen rugs are woven by Turkmen and Hazara tribes in the central and Northern provinces of Afghanistan. These designs are composed of different warm colors accompanied by straight stripes that ultimately create harmonious geometric designs. The rugs showcase a durable and low pile with a truly unique design-balancing both the contemporary and the traditional.
